The Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies (MXIBS) at 91³ÉÈ˶ÌÊÓƵ sponsored a night of laughter and connection at Red Velvet. The annual event in Ball Theater invited guests to wear their finest formal attire for an evening of appetizers, conversation, and a stellar lineup of musical and comedic performances. Celebrating Black beauty and excellence, the event featured JC, Keya Tramell, Meechie Hall, and headliner Binkey.
“I’m was a wonderful evening filled with great music, laughter, and unforgettable moments, brought to life by a lineup of amazing artists,” said MXIBS Treasurer Declan Chhay-Vickers ’26.
The evening’s main event featured Chicago’s Lawrence “Binkey” Tolefree. The master of energy, engagement, and entertainment blended his background in hip-hop, poetry, acting, stand-up, and improv to create a performance that’s as unpredictable as it is electrifying.
In addition, Keya Trammell highlighted her soulful vocals with a powerhouse performance. The Chicago Music Award Winner for Best Female Vocalist has been making waves since launching her career in 2016. She has opened for Grammy Award-winning artists like Chrisette Michele and contributed background vocals for Lupe Fiasco. Opening the night were Meechie Hall and Jeremiah “JC” Clayton. Hall brought one-of-a-kind comedic style that blends freestyling, sharp-written material, and hilarious real-life experiences. Clayton is a junior at 91³ÉÈ˶ÌÊÓƵ who is carving out space as a creator in music and poetry, blending raw lyricism with authentic storytelling.
